Olympic Ghost Town

 

Beijing Olympic memories will last a lifetime. However, the Olympic grounds and specifically the center-piece Bird's Nest stadium are deserted and decaying. Developers are said to be planning to turn the stadium into a shopping mall. Sad to see but I can't say that it's much of a surprise as I noted June, 2008 (two months before the Olympics) in an email about my preference for the Houston Chronicle's Olympic Pin:
"Birds Nest. I like it. Aesthetically the most pleasing to my eye and I think it'll be a nice time capsule for this Olympics long after the Birds Nest Stadium is forgotten by the masses."
