Whistler - world's largest slushy

There are three different venues at/near Whistler Mountain:
1. Alpine skiing (downhill, slalom, etc.) at Whistler Creekside
2. Cross country skiing and ski jump (Nordic combine, etc.) at Whistler Olympic Park
3. Bobsled, luge and skeleton at Whistler Sliding Center.

The schedule on the Mountain is a mess. Snow conditions resemble a Dairy Queen treat more than a skiing surface. Downhill has been pushed back and is at the mercy of the weather as to when it will resume. I had planned to cover Luge today, but with the tragic accident yesterday, Luge will be a zoo and my time is better spent covering another event. It's so difficult to make backup plans during the Winter Olympics. Weather is a bigger factor and distances are much greater. In Beijing, I could step out of my hotel room and get to a dozen events in less than 45 minutes. Here in Vancouver the very closest venue would requires a minimum one hour of travel time. If you are half way to Whistler and find out your event has been postponed, you are most likely out of luck for the day. Even travel between the three venues on the Mountain is measured hours instead of minutes due to the bus connections.

So with that said, I'm staying in Vancouver and going to shoot Men's Short Track Speed Skating this evening. I've heard it described as NASCAR on ice. Should be fun.
